Wirral’s largest housing provider Magenta Living has started work on The Parchments - thirty new homes for social housing in Oxton Village.

Working closely with Wirral Council’s planners, the development’s quality respects the needs of the local conservation area with materials and design which are sensitive to the history of the site.

Located on the site of a former school, the name The Parchments reflects the history of reading and writing materials used in education at the old school.

Made up of eighteen 2-bed, and twelve 1-bed, apartments, they are the first social homes to be built in Oxton Village for at least ten years as part of the £7m scheme.

Leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Paula Basnett, said:

Providing more high-quality homes is a key priority, ensuring local people can access good-quality housing in the communities where they want to live.

So, it's encouraging to see Magenta Living bringing forward another housing development in this popular part of Wirral and just as importantly, the scheme has been designed with sensitivity to the conservation area, helping to meet housing needs while protecting the character of the neighbourhood.

Paul McGrady, Magenta Living’s Chief Financial Officer, welcomed the scheme, saying:

We are very proud to be able to move forward now with this development, respecting the unique character of Oxton Village, and giving more people a chance to join this special corner of Wirral.

We are determined to provide more quality, much-needed, housing; strengthening our communities and giving the people who live here more opportunities.

James Reeveley, Operations Director of The Casey Group, the construction company, said:

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Magenta Living to deliver The Parchments. This development will provide much-needed, high-quality homes, giving more local people the opportunity to live and thrive in Oxton. We are proud to be helping improve lives through the delivery of quality homes and creating a lasting positive impact for residents and the wider community.

Cllr Graham Morgan, Liverpool City Region’s Deputy Mayor for Housing and leader of Knowsley Council, added:

Across the City Region, we are building hundreds of new homes for local residents in every borough and neighbourhood.  Housing providers like Magenta Living are helping to create new communities and deliver much-needed high-quality homes for every need.

The development has been made possible by financial support from Homes England, worth £3.57m, as part of their plans to make more affordable and social housing available.

Shahi Islam, Director of Affordable Housing Grants at Homes England, said:

As the government’s housing and regeneration agency, increasing the supply of quality affordable homes remains one of our key objectives and we are committed to supporting stakeholders of all sizes to achieve their ambitions.

It’s great to see work begin at The Parchments development in Oxton Village. This is a prime example of how we work collaboratively with partners like Magenta Living, to achieve our mission to build much needed new communities that people can be proud to call home.

The Parchments has started construction, will be completed in January 2028, and is part of Magenta Living’s commitment to build 1,300 new homes on the Wirral by 2030.
