People looking for work or considering their next career move are invited to meet employers face to face at the next Jobs Market event, taking place in Birkenhead this May.

More than 30 employers and training providers from across Wirral are expected to attend, with opportunities available across a wide range of sectors, including roles suited to those looking for permanent employment, temporary contracts or a change in career direction.

Employers confirmed to attend so far include: 2 Sisters, Biffa Waste Management, Magenta Living, Merseyside Police, Uren Food Group, Vetro Education, Vistry, Wirral Council and Zen Educate. Also at the event will be training providers/career support from Barclays (Digital Lifeskills), Lifelong Learning, Reachout, Chamber of Commerce, Learning, Skills & Employment Service (Youth Guarantee Trailblazer) and Wirral Met College.

The event will be held at Birkenhead Market’s covered outdoor space, next to Birkenhead Bus Station, on Friday 22 May between 11:30am to 2pm, and is open to anyone looking for work, whatever their experience or background.

Job seekers will be able to speak directly with employers, find out about current vacancies and, for some roles, apply on the day. Information on training opportunities, as well as careers and employability support including CV and application advice, will also be available.

The Jobs Market will run from 11:30am to 2pm, with a pre‑bookable Quiet Hour available between 10:30am and 11:30am for those who prefer a calmer environment.

The event is delivered by Wirral Council and the Department for Work and Pensions, and forms part of the council’s ongoing Jobs Fair programme which is funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, through the city region’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) allocation.

Previous Jobs Fairs held in Wirral have attracted thousands of attendees, connecting local residents directly with employers and training providers. Feedback from earlier events shows that many attendees went on to secure job offers, interviews or training places as a result.

Councillor Mark Skillicorn, Chair of Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, said:

These events are proven to make a real difference by connecting local people with real jobs and real employers. They also give businesses the chance to reach a wide pool of motivated local talent

By bringing employers from a wide range of sectors together in one accessible place, we’re making it easier for local people to explore their options, meet people who are hiring face to face and take positive steps towards employment or training. So whether someone is looking for immediate work, a new challenge or a change in direction, this event will offer them real opportunities and practical support.

Nicki O’Connor, Jobcentre Plus Head of Employer and Strategic Partnerships, said:

“By working in partnership, Wirral Jobcentres and Wirral Council are making a real difference - connecting local people with opportunities, supporting them into sustainable work, and strengthening communities across Wirral. Together, we are not just helping residents find jobs, we are helping them build better futures.
