Local Regeneration Fund Update
New funding allocations for a number of local regeneration projects are set to be decided by councillors.
Members of the Economy, Regeneration and Housing (ERH) Committee will be asked to consider several changes to how money is currently assigned within the Local Regeneration Fund (LRF) when they meet at Wallasey town hall this later month.
The LRF – previously called the Simplification Pathfinder – brings together several former funding streams from central government, including the Town Deal, Future High Streets and the Levelling Up Fund, into one budget to support the council’s regeneration aims.
A report set to be presented to councillors on the ERH Committee will be asked to approve a number of updates to the regeneration programme to ensure it offers value for money and can be fully delivered, including use of funding which is not currently allocated to specific projects.
The council must spend all grant funding relating to the Local Regeneration Fund by the end of the funding period which is 31 March 2028.
Among the new inclusions proposed to be within the Local Regeneration Fund is Birkenhead Park. Councillors are being asked to approve funding to deliver restoration within the park, as well as public realm and accessibility improvements, upgrades to visitor facilities and wider infrastructure.
The report says funding for this could “safeguard a high-value heritage asset” while also supporting the ambitions for UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition.
A full list of projects under consideration is available in the report to the committee and includes the International Battle of the Atlantic and Dominick House in Liscard.
The full report can be viewed on the council website at item 7 of the Agenda for Economy Regeneration & Housing Committee on Monday, 29th June 2026, 6.00 p.m. | Wirral Council, and the meeting of the Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee can be streamed live or watched afterwards.
