Have your say on new plans for Liscard improvements
Consultation is now open on plans to make significant improvements to public spaces in Liscard town centre.
Wirral Council has secured funding from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to revitalise the area and part of this grant will focus on transforming the small square known as ‘Mother Redcap Place’ – near the bus stops and McDonalds.
The aim is to make the location more welcoming and vibrant, transforming it through enhanced public realm, street furniture and appropriate lasting and resilient green infrastructure.
Improvements around the bus stops aim to improve safety and deliver a better waiting environment for passengers.
Chair of Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, Cllr Mark Skillicorn, said:
Before work starts we want to hear your feedback on our ideas to transform Mother Redcap Place.
Under the proposals being put forward we are really keen to see this site, which is at the heart of Liscard Way in the town centre, made more welcoming and attractive as people arrive in the Town Centre.
The proposed changes would also give better pedestrian connections to the bus stops, improve the setting of the statue and help us support the businesses in the town.
The works being put forward would include improving the overall look with high-quality paving using natural stone as well as using landscaping, with the Mother Redcap statue proposing to remain in its current location.
The bus stop area will be widened to give more space for people to sit while waiting for public transport and new benches with armrests and backrests will be added to protect new planting and provide accessible seating.
The planned changes would also see new lighting installed throughout the space and pedestrian crossings will be improved to give easier connections to the bus stops.
The proposal would also see the retention of the existing trees which will be given better conditions to thrive and sustainable drainage installed along the bus route edge to collect surface water runoff and provide screening from vehicles.
Other projects being worked on include a new housing development on the Seaview Road Car Park Site where demolition is currently underway of the former municipal building, improved community facilities, along with other public space and property enhancements. These projects are being consulted on separately.

The consultation is open for contributions until 15 July 2025.
