Free Climate Workshop: How heritage conservation impacts sustainability
A free training session is taking place in Birkenhead later this month, which will explore the fundamentals of climate change, low carbon design strategies, and the crucial role of heritage conservation in shaping a sustainable future.
Open to all, from students to professionals, the session will run as a panel discussion, and will cover topics such as:
- The basics of climate change and its relevance to the built environment
- Practical low carbon design strategies, tailored to heritage contexts
- How heritage-led solutions can drive sustainable development
The session will also reveal key findings from a recent pilot study in Hamilton Square – carried out by The University of Liverpool in partnership with Historic England and Wirral Council - sharing new insights into retrofitting historic buildings with energy efficiency measures without compromising on their architectural significance.
There will also be the opportunity to network with architects, planners, policymakers and heritage professionals.
Speakers taking part in the workshop are:
- Dr Haniyeh Mohammadpourkarbasi – Senior Lecturer in Low Carbon Architecture at the Liverpool School of Architecture
- Kit Knowles – Managing Director of Ecospheric Ltd, an award-winning Passivhaus design and low energy retrofit consultancy
- Agustina Solassi – Principle Heritage Officer at Wirral Council
The workshop takes place on Wednesday 21st May, between 4 – 6pm at Birkenhead Town Hall in the Council Chamber. No booking is required, simply turn up on the day.
