Finsa officially opens new £20m logistics headquarters in Birkenhead
Wirral Council’s leader Cllr Paula Basnett has welcomed a £20 million investment in new port and distribution facilities at Wirral Waters which will bring jobs, trade and support sustainable growth in the borough.
Finsa, one of the UK's leading wood-based panel suppliers, has officially opened a £20 million port and distribution hub in Birkenhead, marking a major vote of confidence in the Wirral economy and the growth potential of Wirral Waters Freeport.
Developed with Peel Ports, the state-of-the-art 156,000 sq ft facility at Grandidges Quay features a logistics warehouse, cross-laminated timber office building, commercial showroom space and its own dockside crane, creating a modern base for the company's UK operations and future expansion.
Finsa UK Ltd, a subsidiary of the Spanish company Financiera Maderera S.A. (Finsa), has operated in the United Kingdom since 1978 and been based in Merseyside since 1990. Generating an annual turnover of approximately £60 million Finsa UK is a key supplier to distributors and manufacturers across the construction and interior design industries.

The opening ceremony saw more than 80 attendees, including Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region; Alejandro Polanco Mata, Consul General of Spain in Manchester; and Cllr Paula Basnett, Leader of Wirral Council. They were joined by representatives from Finsa's board and management team, Peel Ports, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Wirral Chamber of Commerce, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, as well as key UK business partners and project contractors.
