Pride in Place Neighbourhood Boards are recruiting members
Local champions and people committed to improving their areas and communities are being urged to step forward in Seacombe, Woodchurch and central Birkenhead.
As part of the Government’s Pride in Place programme £60 million is being invested across these three Wirral areas and local members of the communities are now being sought to join the Neighbourhood Boards which will oversee how this funding is used over the next decade.
The Pride in Place Neighbourhood Boards are each lead by a chairperson who has recently been appointed: Nicola Fenton in Seacombe, Liam Kelly in Central Birkenhead and Jennifer Allinson in Woodchurch.
These independent Chairs are now recruiting the local people, including residents, businesses, workplace representatives, community leaders and faith groups, who will form the Neighbourhood Boards.
After they are set up the Boards will develop a 10 year Investment Plan to deliver improvements, shaped by working closely with local people and setting out priorities, outcomes and projects for the area while also continuing to ensure local people remain central to decision-making, reflecting the programme’s commitment to community-led leadership.
This is about putting communities at the centre of shaping local priorities, with each neighbourhood receiving up to £20 million to invest in improvements identified by residents, such as enhancing high streets and green spaces to supporting local organisations.
The Chairs will convene and guide the Neighbourhood Boards as the programme moves from planning into delivery working alongside their local MP and community organisations.
This summer will see the Neighbourhood Boards confirm their final membership and submit any proposals to alter area boundaries ahead of submitting their plans to Government for assessment and approval later in the year.
