Have your say on latest plans for Noctorum Ridge Conservation Area
A second consultation on the proposed conservation area at Noctorum Ridge is now underway following extensive public feedback.
The consultation could see Noctorum Ridge, which is known for its large mansion houses, become the latest conservation area in Wirral.
Following an initial consultation phase changes to the proposed boundary for the conservation area are now being put forward for public comment.
Conservation areas are places of special architectural and historic interest, and local authorities have a duty to identify and protect them. Their designation as a Conservation Area helps ensure that their distinctive character and appearance are recognised and preserved for the future.
The Noctorum Ridge area is notable for its exceptionally large mansions constructed between the 1870s and the early 1900s, some of which were designed by eminent local architect Edmund Kirby. The mansions give the area its particular historic and architectural interest.
Following feedback from the first consultation and further assessment by the Heritage Team, a revised boundary is proposed to better reflect the special architectural and historic interest of Noctorum Ridge.
This second round of consultation shows how the council listens and uses that local knowledge from people to inform important decisions such as protecting Noctorum Ridge which is an important part of Wirral's history.
Noctorum Ridge has a strong architectural legacy primarily formed in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods and this work to designate it as a conservation area can help ensure that it is protected for future generations so I would urge local residents and other stakeholders to continue to engage with our heritage team before any decision is made.
The revised boundary focuses on the areas that make the strongest contribution to the character and significance of Noctorum Ridge and follows historic roads, landscape features and established historic settlement patterns.
It also includes groups of significant historic buildings, together with important green spaces and mature landscaping and takes into account evidence that the area's character has been affected by the loss of large houses, plot subdivision and infill development.
The new proposed boundary aims to provide a clearer and more effective basis for conserving and managing the area's special character in the future.

The consultation page includes documentation on the proposed Noctorum Ridge Conservation Area and a map showing the new proposed boundary. The consultation period is open now and will continue until Sunday 11th of October.
There will be a drop-in event taking place on Thursday 24th September, 5pm-7pm, at Wirral Golf Club, 93 Bidston Rd, Birkenhead, Prenton CH43 6TS where residents will have an opportunity to view the plans and ask any questions.
