Thousands in unclaimed support available for residents
More than 1,000 Wirral residents are being contacted as part of a partnership campaign to help ensure people are receiving financial support they may be entitled to.
Wirral Council, working alongside Involve North West, Age UK, Wirral Change, and Citizens Advice Wirral, has issued letters to residents who may be eligible for benefits such as Pension Credit and Attendance Allowance. The campaign is supported by data and insight from Policy in Practice and forms part of the ongoing Wirral LIFT (Low Income Family Tracker) programme to increase the take-up of benefits and tackle financial hardship.
Pension Credit can provide valuable financial support to people over State Pension age on a low income. As well as increasing income, it can unlock access to a range of additional benefits and support, including Winter Fuel Payments, help with NHS costs and other concessions.
Attendance Allowance provides financial help to older people who need extra support because of illness, disability or long-term health conditions.
Residents who receive a letter are being encouraged to read it carefully and follow the steps outlined to check their eligibility and make a claim.
We know that some people are missing out on financial support they are entitled to, often simply because they don't realise they qualify or they find the process daunting.
That's why we're working closely with trusted local partners to reach out directly to residents who may be eligible for Pension Credit or Attendance Allowance.
If you receive a letter from us, please take the time to read it and follow the guidance provided. The support available could make a significant difference to your income and wellbeing.
Our partners are also on hand to provide advice and support throughout the process, helping people access the benefits they deserve.
Residents do not need to navigate the process alone. Support is available from Citizens Advice Wirral, Age UK, Wirral Change and Involve North West, with advisers able to help people understand their options, check eligibility and complete claims where appropriate.
