Have Your Say on the latest update to Wirral’s Local Plan
Wirral residents, businesses, community groups and stakeholders are being encouraged to have their say on the first stage of developing a new Local Plan for the borough.
The consultation, which launches on 15 July 2026 and runs until 5pm on 6 August 2026, marks the beginning of the council’s work to prepare a new Local Plan under the Government’s updated planning system.
A Local Plan sets out the long-term vision for how an area will develop and grow, providing the framework and policies used to determine planning applications and guide future development.
Although Wirral’s current Local Plan was adopted in March 2025, changes to national planning requirements mean it must now be updated. The new plan will be prepared under the revised plan-making system introduced this year (March 2026).
This Scoping Report consultation aims to gather early views from local people and organisations on what issues the new Local Plan should address and how the council should engage with communities throughout the plan-making process.
Chair of Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, Cllr Mark Skillicron, said:
This is an important opportunity for local people, businesses and organisations to help shape Wirral’s future.
We want to hear a wide range of views on the opportunities and challenges facing the borough and what residents think should be included in the new Local Plan. Early engagement is a vital part of the process and will help ensure the plan reflects the needs and aspirations of our communities.
The consultation will be available online via the Placemaker engagement platform from 15 July until 5pm on 6 August 2026.
Participants will need to register on the platform before they can view the Scoping Report, submit comments and complete their response. For more information on this, follow this link: Wirral Scoping Report
