Wirral Council opens new ‘Call for Sites’
Proposed sites which could be developed for housing, employment or other purposes such as community use can now be submitted to Wirral Council, to help us prepare our new Local Plan.
The Call for Sites process will not determine how much new development is needed, or whether a site should be allocated for development or planning permission granted in the future. It is an opportunity for local residents, community groups, business operators, landowners and developers to tell us about potential development sites in the borough.
Anyone can suggest a site to the council, even if you don’t own the land you are putting forward. You will be asked for your name, if you are an organisation or group, your email address and any comments. Once you submit your site(s), we will assess them for their suitability and viability through a Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment.
As announced last month recently introduced Government regulations will require Wirral to begin to renew its Local Plan, starting later this year. Local Plans set a strategic vision for how an area will grow and change in the coming years, promoting sustainable development and long-term economic growth.
Cllr Mark Skillicorn, Chair of Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, said:
We are seeking details of potential sites for the new Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment, and this is a chance for individuals, groups or businesses to highlight locations which they believe could be included for development.
This will help us identify sites that could accommodate new jobs, business activity and housing, to support sustainable growth across the borough.
You can suggest any site that you would like to be considered. Sites can put forward for a wide range of uses. This includes, but is not limited to, housing, commercial or leisure uses.
