Wirral meeting housing target
Wirral’s latest Authority Monitoring Report (AMR) is now online and shows the progress against the requirements of the borough’s Local Plan.
Key findings include:
- 1,816 dwellings have been completed between 2022-2025, a net increase of 1,599 new build dwellings between 2022-2025 exceeding the target of net 1,500.
- the council has calculated the housing land supply position for a range of scenarios all of which deliver a 5-year supply of land
Local Plans set a strategic vision for how an area will grow and change in the coming years, promoting sustainable development and long-term economic growth and Wirral adopted its Plan in March 2025.
This AMR covers the first three monitoring years of the plan period for the adopted Local Plan, from 1st April 2022 through to 31st March 2025, and is the first AMR since adopting the Local Plan in March 2025.
Leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Paula Basnett, said:
This Authority Monitoring Report shows we are delivering on the housing requirements of our Local Plan and can demonstrate a five year supply of housing.
It also demonstrates we have a good foundation to go forward and meet the needs of the people of Wirral, including pushing ahead with the Strategic Housing Partnership which, working with local organisations and housing providers, will help us in bringing forward even more new homes to meet the needs of residents of our borough.
