This Movember, dads are growing mighty moustaches and finding mighty support
Our Famiily Hubs are inclusive spaces for everyone.
Movember first started in 2003 in Australia, with two friends growing moustaches to start conversations and shine a spotlight on men’s health. Over two decades later, Movember is now a global movement and charity. It has funded over 1,320 men’s health projects around the world, helping transform the way health services reach and support men. Tackling issues such as mental health and prostate cancer, Movember also funds a free online parenting programme designed for dads with parenting tips, strategies and articles.
For this Movember, we wanted to let dads across Wirral know about the support available to them in our Family Hubs, where laughs, learning, and little ones bring everyone together. David Bennett, Early Childhood Locality Manager at Wirral Council talks about the inclusiveness of the Hubs and the importance of reaching out for support.
Dads are welcome to any of the sessions across Family Hubs, including stay and play groups, peer support sessions, the Being a Parent course and much more! The support at our Hubs is for everyone.
However, there are some dedicated groups just for men that we wanted to share with you:
There is a Dad Club every first Sunday of the month at Cub & Calf Family Hub in West Kirby. The group runs from 9.30am to 11am and is open to any dads, grandads, father figures and their children under the age of five. The group is run by Jai, who is a dad to four children and a local builder.
Jai started the group so that dads could get together to chat about becoming a father and everything that comes along with that journey. Statistically, dads tend to return to work earlier than mums and Jai wanted to provide a dedicated play session where dads could spend one on one time with their children.
The session is very informal and relaxed. You can choose to pre book via Cub & Calf’s social media pages or just turn up on the day. The next session on Sunday 7 December will have a Christmas theme, and dads and their little ones can take part in creating a keepsake Christmas craft. You can find more about Cub & Calf on their website: Cub & Calf | Cub and Calf Parent Hub | West Kirby
There is also a range of services aimed at dads at our Koala North West Family Hub in Birkenhead. Some of the support on offer includes, home visiting, the ‘Dads Reflective Programme’ and a dad’s stay and play group. You can find more details on Koala North West’s website: Supporting Dads - Koala North West
