Keeping your loved ones safe - respiratory illnesses in care homes
10 January 2025
We all know that viruses like flu, COVID-19 and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) spread more easily in winter, especially as we are all spending more time indoors.
There has been an increase in reports of outbreaks of respiratory infection and diarrhoea/vomiting in care homes.
Protecting our most vulnerable residents is vital. If you regularly visit family or friends in care homes, there are a few key things you may want to consider:
- Stay at home if you are unwell - you don’t want to spread your illness to somebody who is vulnerable
- Practice good hand hygiene - this is something we should all be doing regularly, but it’s always good to have the reminder!
- Keep yourself hydrated and eat well - this will help you to keep well overall.
