Foster carers recognised for contribution to lives of local children
Wirral Foster carers have been recognised for their exceptional contribution to the lives of local children at an Appreciation Event in Bromborough.
The event is an annual opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the huge contribution that foster carers make to local children.
As part of the event, three awards were presented by Cllr Stephen Bennett to:
- Connected Carer – Above and Beyond: Angela and Derek Smith
- Exceptional Service to Fostering: Marie and Paul Dacosta
- Outstanding Contribution to Fostering: Sue and Peter Lamont
Nominations were made by staff across Children’s Services.
Cllr Stephen Bennett, Chair of the Children, Young People and Education committee for Wirral Council, said:
Fostering a child who needs a loving and stable home is an incredible thing to do and we’re lucky in Wirral that we have a group of inspiring local authority foster carers who have made fostering their life’s passion.
It takes a special kind of person to welcome someone into their family and to care for them as one of their own. Appreciating and celebrating our foster carers is the least we can do to say thank you to these families for their continued dedication to supporting some of our borough’s most vulnerable children and young people.
Alongside the awards, the event, which took place on Tuesday 23 September at the Village Hotel in Bromborough, also provided afternoon tea for guests as well as speeches from a number of speakers.
Thank you cards and tokens of appreciation were given to all the carers who attended.
Thanks go to businesses including LFC, Refreshment Rooms, The Village Hotel, Nando’s, Otto Lounge, Sassy Hair, Hickory’s, Festival Flowers, Coffee House & We Don’t Fudge About for their kind donations of gifts for the foster carers.
