A Jobs Fair aimed at recruiting people into the Health & Social Care sector is taking place at The Hive in Birkenhead.

The event will take place on Tuesday 21 January 2025 from 2pm to 7pm and aims to connect employers and those considering working in the sector.

There will be more than 20 employers in attendance including NHS Trusts and community care employers with a range of jobs across a large number of different roles, from Clinical Support Workers in the NHS to support worker in care homes or the community, healthcare or domestic assistant to activities coordinators, porters, healthcare cleaning professional, and more.

This project is funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, through the city region’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) allocation. The fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda, providing £2.6 billion of funding for local Investment by March 2025.

The jobs fair is free to attend for employers and residents and those interested in working in the sector, and will also be attended by career support and education providers, including The University of Chester and Wirral Met College.

The fair will give people the opportunity to speak to employers directly, find out what a career in Health and Social Care would look like for them, and make job applications in person.

There will be a wide range of employers attending, with many vacancies promoted on the day that will include opportunities for anyone – from school leavers, those who are currently not in employment, or people working but looking to change their career path – this event will have something for them.

There will also be opportunities for experienced workers in the sector such as nurses, health visitors, allied health professionals, as well as for university or college students in final year of health and social care related studies. For those looking to combine training with ‘on the job’ experience, apprenticeships will be available to apply for at the event.

Cllr Tony Jones, Chair of the Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, said:

Health and care is a crucial sector, providing support and assistance for the most vulnerable members of our community but we know they too often struggle to attract new staff. This jobs fair aims to help connect employers and those who might be looking to work in the sector so they can understand better what skills they can bring to it. We are committed to supporting employers in finding the skilled and dedicated workforce they need.

So I’d say to anyone interested in moving into, or returning to the health and care sector, to come along to the jobs fair, talk to employers and find out more about the opportunities available for a rewarding career.

Councillor Marion Atkinson, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Employment, Education and Skills, said:

As a Combined Authority we are very pleased to support this jobs fair that will help our vital health and social care sector find the staff they need while at the same time providing local residents with access to opportunities.

Hayley Rigby, Deputy Chief People Officer at Wirral University Teaching Hospital said,

Wirral University Teaching Hospital is proud to be a partner of this event to support local people to access careers in health and social care.  We have a range of clinical and non-clinical job roles available. Don’t worry if you don’t have the experience or qualifications, we can provide this through our apprenticeship vacancies where we will fund qualifications to support people into their chosen career paths.

The jobs fair is on Tuesday 21 January 2025 from 2pm to 7pm at The Hive, Bright Street, Birkenhead, CH41 4EA
