D-Day, considered by many to mark the beginning of the end of World War II, was the largest seaborne invasion force in history. On 6 June 1944, 156,000 Allied servicemen landed on the beaches and fields of Normandy by the end of the day.
Crowds flocked to see Gaia in Birkenhead Park over the past three days, one of the highlights of this year's Borough of Culture. As well as the seven meter sculpture of planet Earth, there were people-powered rockets, torchlit concerts, outdoor yoga sessions, dance performances and much more.
