Your chance to suggest places for new electric vehicle charge points
Wirral residents will have their chance to suggest locations for new electric vehicle charging points to be installed.
Wirral Council agreed an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure Strategy last year which, amongst other things, set a target of providing 1,580 new standard or fast EV chargepoints across the borough by 2030.
In order to ensure that the charging points are installed in the right place for use by people who don’t have their own driveways or access to off-street car parking, the first stage is to ask residents where they would like to have EV charging provided.
From today until 6th February 2025, residents can go online - On Street Electric Vehicle Charging | Have your say Wirral - and complete a short survey, part of which will be their opportunity to provide a street name and postcode. All locations suggested will be subject to a site survey to see if it is a suitable place for electric charging.
Once the final locations have been chosen, there will be a further public consultation before the work to install the EV chargepoints starts in autumn 2025.
Funding for this project is being provided in full by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) which awarded £9.6 million Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) grant funding to improve charging facilities across the city region. LEVI funding can only be spent on electric vehicle infrastructure to support households without off street car parking to switch to an electric vehicle.
