Appeal for witnesses after shocking fly-tipping incident
Environmental enforcement officers from Wirral Council are appealing for the public’s help as they investigate an irresponsible, large-scale fly-tipping incident that occurred over the weekend.
The fly-tipping was reported late on Saturday night after a resident drove down Red Hill Road, Storeton and had to take evasive action to avoid a more serious collision with some of the waste that had been dumped on the lane.
They reported that there were items strewn across the highway for approximately a half-mile stretch of Red Hill Road, suggesting that whichever vehicle or vehicles that had dumped the waste did so without stopping.
Unfortunately, despite their emergency reaction, the resident that reported the incident to the police and the council’s Emergency Control Centre still suffered damage to her vehicle from some of the debris, which included loose nails that punctured her tyres.
In places, the volume of waste that was deposited blocked the entrance to one resident’s land and property.
The waste that was fly-tipped seems consistent with a house clearance or renovation of some kind as it included items of kitchens and bathroom furniture, porcelain sinks and toilets, nails, wood, and other related materials.
Aside from the damage to the resident’s car and the personal disruption and upset caused to them, this incident also meant the road had to be closed for a time to remove the danger is posed to other road users. It also required a considerable amount of time and money for the contractors to clear the road.
We are calling on the public to urgently come forward if they saw anything or recognise any of the waste that has been dumped.
This is a substantial fly-tip, seemingly resulting from a home rip-out, and it represents a serious environmental and community concern. We urge anyone with information to step forward and help us take action against this blatant disregard for our community and environment.
