Wirral Council seeks new Executive Director for Place

30 April 2026
Wallasey Town Hall

As part of a major restructure of Wirral Council’s senior management to improve delivery of services a new Executive Director for Place is to be recruited.

The new role is part of wider changes across the council’s senior management team which is also seeing a number of other leadership roles removed.

When appointed the Executive Director for Place will replace the two current Director roles of Neighbourhoods and Regeneration and will join a second Executive Director for People whose role will be tying in the statutory areas of Children’s Services, Adults, Health and Strategic Commissioning and Public Health.

The cost of these changes will be fully funded from savings generated from across the senior leadership team restructure.

The Executive Director for Place will be expected to strengthen accountability and accelerate delivery firmly grounded in public value and what matters most to residents. Responsible for both everyday services and delivery of long-term opportunities the new Executive Director for Place will play a pivotal role in shaping the way residents experience the place they live in now and the way Wirral grows for decades to come.

The role will cover council areas of Planning and Building Control, Housing, Regeneration and Major Projects, Place Making and Economic Growth, Asset Management, Transport, Highways and Infrastructure, Road Safety, Transport, Neighbourhood Safety, Climate Change, Customer Service and Engagement, Leisure and Libraries, Parks and Environment, and major events.

It is expected that the successful candidate will bring partners – communities, businesses, developers and public sector colleagues – with them in shaping the way people experience Wirral now and the way the borough grows for decades to come.

The job description was approved at the meeting of the Senior Officer Appointments and Staffing Sub-Committee on Monday, 23rd March, and can be found here, and role is advertised here.
