Review of Wirral Council Ward Boundaries Underway
A review of Wirral Council’s ward boundaries is underway, and residents are being invited for their views to help make sure that wards reflect the size and shape of local communities.
The review is being carried out by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, who are an independent body accountable to Parliament, and are responsible for shaping and creating electoral ward boundaries across England.
An electoral review consultation typically has two public consultation stages:
- The first stage asks for views on a broad range of issues affecting the local area, which the Commission then uses to draw a map of proposed local boundaries. This is currently underway and the deadline to submit a response is Monday 18 November 2024.
- The second stage of consultation then provides a chance for local people to comment on the Commission’s proposals before they are finalised and laid before Parliament, to be made into law.
This consultation relates to the arrangements for local government (Council) elections and is separate from recent consultations on arrangements for parliamentary elections.
Following an earlier consultation with the Council, the Commission independently concluded that Wirral Council needs 66 councillors to operate effectively.
