Interest confirmed Birkenhead Commercial District offices
Wirral Council’s leader has today welcomed the news that a significant prospective occupier is in talks to move into a key town centre office development.
A report set to go to the council’s Policy and Resources Committee on December 17 seeks permission for the “the Interim Chief Executive to negotiate and finalise the grant of an appropriate sub lease to an appropriate occupier”.
It is part of an update on “letting the Birkenhead Commercial District assets, Mallory and Irvine”.
The report says the Council is now “Good progress has been made regard negotiating the letting of assets. It is therefore anticipated that the Council may have to take a decision regarding letting space in the near future.”
It adds that “at the time of construction and now the two buildings are, with few exceptions, the best new office spaces on the market in the North West of England.”
Leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Paula Basnett, said:
This is momentous news for Birkenhead and the town centre and a real vote of confidence in its future.
The Birkenhead Commercial District assets, Mallory and Irvine, are extremely high quality office space and the news that discussions are well advanced with a significant prospective occupier major company which is keen on moving there it will undoubtedly have a huge impact.
Not only is this a massive boost for the town but the prospect of bringing many more workers and the resultant increase in footfall will be hugely significant for local traders, as well as the income from the rent to help support frontline council services.
It is still early days and Clearly there are still some very practical steps we need to take, but when we are able to make further announcements we will do so.
The full report will be discussed at next meeting of Wirral Council's Policy and Resources Committee when its members meet at Wallasey town hall on Wednesday December 17. The committee agenda is online here.
