Have Your Say: Council Tax Support in Wirral
Wirral Council is inviting residents to take part in an important consultation about proposed changes to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme (CTRS) – and your voice matters.
The CTRS helps people on low incomes by reducing the amount of Council Tax they have to pay. At the moment, everyone of working age who qualifies for support must pay at least 17.5% of their bill. This rule was introduced in April 2025, but the Council is now reviewing the scheme to make sure it remains fair, affordable, and efficient.
The Council is considering increasing the minimum amount that all working-age residents must pay. This would help reduce the overall cost of the scheme and make it easier to manage. While this change may mean some people pay a little more, it would help protect support for the most vulnerable and ensure the scheme is sustainable for the future.
Before any changes are made, the Council wants to hear from you. This is your chance to have a say on how the scheme should work from April 2026. The consultation is open to all residents, and your feedback will help shape the final decision.
You can take part in the consultation online at Council Tax Reduction Scheme Consultation. The consultation closes on Sunday 30th November.
