Wirral Council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee met at Birkenhead town hall on Monday January 22.

The full agenda for this committee meeting is available on the council website. The meeting is also webcast and can be viewed online.

Items on the agenda included:

  • 2024-25 Budget Report Update, which outlines forthcoming pressures and proposed savings that are being considered within the Medium Term Financial Plan. The full report can be read on the website.
  • Wirral Waters Investment Fund – Egerton Village. This report sought approval from the committee to enable a local company to take over the development of Egerton Village, a £4m retail, leisure and events space at Wirral Waters. The Starship Group will now lead on the development and construction of the waterside village, taking over from Peel Waters. The report is online and more details about this project can be found on wirralview.com
  • Utilisation of Procure Partnerships Framework, Birkenhead Waterfront Programme, Conway Street, Europa Boulevard and Grange Road/Charing Cross/Grange Road West Movement Projects. This report outlined how the council is about to achieve a key milestone in selecting contractors to deliver major works at Woodside waterfront and Birkenhead town centre.

The coming year is set to see tens of millions of pounds invested in the redevelopment of Birkenhead Waterfront and Birkenhead town centre areas. These works are a key element of the plans for the town and also fit in with the wider ambitious regeneration programme for Wirral’s whole Left Bank from Bromborough through Birkenhead, Wirral Waters, Seacombe and Liscard to New Brighton.

The local authority has secured grants from a number of separate Government sources and is now pressing ahead at pace to deliver on the council’s regeneration programme.

The report to the meeting of the council’s Economy, Regeneration and Housing Committee, sought agreement from councillors for officers to move forward with identifying the right partners to take the work to the next stage.
