The funding will support those who are struggling to afford food and other essential items.

Community-based food and welfare support providers are being invited to apply for grants of up to £20,000 to help local people in need. The funding will support those who are struggling to afford food and other essential items.

Matt Bennett, Director of Finance for Wirral Council, said:

In Wirral we have a thriving community, voluntary and faith sector, with countless organisations playing a key role in supporting some of the most vulnerable residents in our borough.

These groups have incredibly close links to the communities they serve and great local knowledge making them the perfect point of contact to deliver on the ground support to Wirral households.

By applying to the Small Grants Programme, these groups can ensure that help is available where it is needed most.

The Small Grants Programme funding is part of a of £3 million package of support funded through Round 5 of the Household Support Fund, which runs until the end of September 2024.

The deadline for community organisations to apply is 5pm on 14 June 2024 and successful projects will have until 20 September 2024 to spend all of the grant funding they receive.
