As the sun went down on Saturday night, Hamilton Square came alive with music, fairground rides and an epic light show - kicking off Wirral's Borough of Culture year in style!
People travelled from across Wirral and beyond to take in the sights of #AnimatedSquare, enjoying a breathtaking visual display which lit up Birkenhead Town Hall to tell the story of the town's past, present and future.
Created by award-winning Illuminos, #AnimatedSquare celebrates all things Birkenhead. The free family festival included street entertainment, plus food stalls, free face painting from Radio City, a magnificent choir performance, and two 15-minute light projections.
First seen in May last year as part of Wirral’s Tall Ships celebrations, the event featured new content for 2019, and was bigger and better than ever!
#AnimatedSquare is organised by Wirral Council with funding for the projection from Arts Council England, and is proudly sponsored by Westminster Associates.
The Borough of Culture initiative was introduced by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and is designed to encourage cultural activities across the region.
