Dozens of events from street parties organised by neighbours to picnics and balls took place across Wirral to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
One of the key events which saw the extended Jubilee weekend get underway was the lighting of Wirral’s Jubilee Beacon by Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Jeff Green at the Grand Entrance Archway at Birkenhead Park. Wirral’s Jubilee Beacon was among more than 2022 others across the UK and Commonwealth to be lit.
The flagship park also hosted a Picnic in the Park as part of the Big Jubilee Lunch organised by Friends of Birkenhead Park. People brought their own picnics, chairs and rugs to the field opposite to the Visitor Centre (Balaclava Field) where they joined together to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the 175th anniversary of Birkenhead Park.
Street parties organised by local communities also took place across the borough. Almost 80 roads were given permission to be closed to traffic while street parties took place to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
And they were among the many Jubilee events in Wirral from New Brighton to Eastham and Thornton Hough to Moreton and many locations in between.
