Businesses in Wirral have benefited from taking part in a half day event to help keep those who drive for work safer on the road.
Funded by the Road Safety Trust, the seminar was organised by Wirral Council’s Road Safety Team on the back of figures showing driving is the most common work-related health and safety risk.
The free session, provided businesses with information and tips on how to keep employees as safe as possible when driving.
Those business representative who attended were provided with an understanding of:
- The common risks around driving to/for work
- The latest legislation around driving and health and safety
- Incident investigation and the prosecution process
Cllr Stuart Whittingham, Wirral Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transportation, said: "Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on Wirral roads is everyone's responsibility and a top priority for the Council.
"The Mind Your Business initiative is very much about education and preventing collisions ever happening. Clearly, people who drive as part of their job are more likely to encounter problems as they spend more time behind the wheel, so it makes sense to engage with local businesses directly in this way."
Speakers on the day included; Surekha Gollapudi - a legal expert who specialises in corporate criminal defence. Retired Inspector Paul Bennet, who has worked within the Collision Investigation Unit at the Central Motorway Policing Group and Andrew Drewary, an award-winning road safety consultant who has managed the investigation process for over 37,000 road traffic collisions.
Mind Your Business was an initiative launched by Wirral’s Road Safety Team in 2015 to work with local businesses and employees to focus on road safety at work.
