British stars Alex Dowsett and Harry Tanfield will headline Team KATUSHA ALPECIN’s line-up for this year’s OVO Energy Tour of Britain, which begins in Glasgow on Saturday 7 September and comes to Wirral on Wednesday 11 September.
Dowsett, 30, is a former stage winner in Britain’s most prestigious cycle race and finished eighth overall in 2014. Having won his sixth national time trial title in June, the Essex-born rider will get to wear the British champion’s colours during the race’s stage against the clock in Pershore, Worcestershire, on Thursday 12 June.
“It’ll be all guns blazing for a big result – not just in the time trial, but in other stages during the week,” said Dowsett. “I’ll be getting fully stuck in in front of a home crowd.
“The route looks good and the support we get during the race is always mad – that’ll definitely be the case again this year, especially with the world championships so soon after. It’s going to be special!”
Tanfield is also a time trial specialist, recording three top-15 results in such stages during his first year with the UCI WorldTour (top division) team. Known to British fans for his victories during the 2018 OVO Energy Tour Series, the 24-year-old from Great Ayton also won a stage of last year’s Tour de Yorkshire.
The remainder of Team KATUSHA ALPECIN's six-man roster will be confirmed next week.
Taking place between Saturday 7 – 14 September, the OVO Energy Tour of Britain is British Cycling’s premier road cycling event, giving cycling fans the opportunity to see the world’s best teams and riders competing on their doorstep and helping to build a great cycling nation.
ITV4 will once again screen live free-to-air coverage flag-to-flag of each stage in the UK, along with a nightly highlights programme of the best of the action.
