Wirral Council wants to hear your views on local pharmacy services via this year’s Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, or PNA for short.
The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment is a detailed review of existing pharmacy provision in Wirral.
As part of the PNA, a questionnaire is seeking residents’ views on the services and location of pharmacies, and the frequency with which local people make use of them. The survey also asks Wirral residents how they normally get to their chosen pharmacy and what is their most important consideration when choosing one.
Julie Webster, Wirral’s Director of Public Health, said: “Our local pharmacy is often one of the first places we turn to when we have a concern about ours or our family’s health. So, it’s vital that we regularly assess the needs of Wirral’s population and how pharmacies can meet them.
“I would ask everyone to get involved and respond to this important survey, to help us shape the future of pharmacy provision in Wirral.”
The questionnaire is anonymous and should only take a few minutes to complete. It will be open for comments from 1st – 30th November 2021 for all Wirral residents.
Results from the survey will be used to inform a review of the needs of the local population and the ease of access to local pharmacy services - contributing to the final PNA which will be published before October 2022.
The process for producing a new PNA for the borough began in Spring 2020, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the publication date was put back to September 2022 as per national direction.
Wirral’s most recent PNA was produced in 2018 and concluded that the borough is well served in terms of the spread of community pharmacies. There was one pharmacy for every 3,402 residents, which compared favourably to the national average of one pharmacy for every 5,000 residents.

Paper copies and easy-read versions of the survey are also available on request. Please email PNA2022@wirral.gov.uk or call either 0151 666 5179 or 0151 666 5201 to request one.
The local Health & Wellbeing Board has a legal duty to produce, consult and publish a PNA for their area - as per the 2013 Health & Social Care Act.
