Have your say on the future of Birkenhead

Over the next month, residents, businesses and visitors will be given the opportunity to help define the future of Birkenhead.

Wirral Growth Company (WGC) – a 50:50 joint venture between Wirral Council and urban regeneration specialists, Muse Developments – will be asking people to give their views on what they want to see in the borough’s main town centre.

One of the first areas of focus for the company will be new development in Birkenhead, where plans for development could include a new business district of high-quality offices, alongside leisure space, an improved market and extensive public realm improvements, creating a revitalised town centre.

Starting Friday 31 May, at the Pyramids, the growth company will open a ‘pop up’ shop on key dates, where the team will be asking residents for their views on what the future should look like for Birkenhead.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth, Cllr Tony Jones, said: “We want to hear your ideas, your hopes and - yes - your criticisms of the town centre to help redefine the future of Birkenhead and decide what happens next. We know some things that we really want to do - create new prosperity, jobs, and homes, create office space to attract employers, and this is our first step.

“Before work starts we want you to tell us what works, what you think doesn’t, and what you want to see.

“It is crucial that this is a real conversation with as many people as possible about their very genuine concerns about Birkenhead so their ambitions for the town can be addressed.”

Mike Horner, Development Director at Muse Developments, said: “We’re really looking forward to engaging with the community, speaking to residents and other key stakeholders about their thoughts on Birkenhead, to find out how we can help them deliver their vision for a vibrant and attractive future town centre.

“This is a key step for any successful programme of regeneration that will help shape development in the area, and enable the growth company to bring forward transformational schemes that deliver a real sense of place.”
