This summer we launched the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign in Wirral as part of a national initiative to celebrate young women who play sport.
As part of the campaign, we visited Wirral leisure centres to speak to the teenagers who embody what This Girl Can is all about. We met with them to find out which classes they take part in and what they enjoy most about the exercise they do. Their responses were inspiring, and they gave some great advice to other teens thinking about getting into sport. Watch the video below!
Wallasey footballer Jodie Taylor is the ambassador for our This Girl Can campaign. Jodie currently plays for Arsenal in the English FA Women’s Super League, after starting her career at Tranmere Rovers in 2002. Last year at the age of 29, she scored in the FIFA Women’s World Cup against Canada – so as you can imagine we’re really excited to have her on-board!
Jodie said: "I'm pleased to back the This Girl Can campaign in Wirral to get girls into sport and exercise. Playing sport was a huge part of growing up for me in Wirral and it would be great to help more girls get active."
This Girl Can is a national campaign by Sport England. You can find out more about This Girl Can events in Wirral at Teenwirral.com.
