Wirral Council moved a step closer to finalising its budget for 2021-22 last night as members of the Policy and Resources committee met to discuss options on the table.
A proposal by the Labour Group was carried by the Chair’s casting vote. Details of that proposal included saving £90k through efficiencies at the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum, closing the fun pool at Europa Pools leisure centre and making savings from Merseytravel freezing the levy they are given for the coming year.
These suggestions were offered in place of some of the original savings ideas that included stopping school crossing patrols, closing public toilets, three-weekly bin collections, the closure of golf courses and closing Europa Pools altogether.
Having been carried by the committee, these revised options will now go to the next meeting of full Council on March 1st where all elected members will be asked to vote on this, and/or any proposed amendments that might be put forward.
