Wirral Waters development wins at Insider's NW Residential Property Awards
The Miller's Quay residential development at Wirral Waters has won a prestigious award.
The scheme - which has been supported by Wirral Council - won the prestigious ‘Deal of the Year’ category at Insider's North West Residential Property Awards in recognition of the £130m investment into Millers Quay agreed last year.
The event saw the people and businesses that have designed, developed, funded and continue to manage the built environment recognised for their outstanding achievements across the region.
The judges said the Miller's Quay deal representing an investment by a London-based pension fund into one of the poorest areas in the UK, is an example of "levelling-up in action", and that its scale, given the location, was "monumental".
The development, which will comprise 500 highly sustainable and energy efficient homes - including 100 affordable new homes, delivering significant social impact - was named Miller’s Quay in recognition of the site’s industrial heritage. The name refers to the historical use of the site as a flour mill and a copper-rolling mill.
Richard Mawdsley, Director of Development for Wirral Waters at Peel L&P, said:
It is wonderful to be recognised in this way. Miller’s Quay is a major scale, catalytic and highly sustainable residential development that will deliver a mix of new homes, including affordable.
Projects like this, a great example of brownfield regeneration, only happen through collaboration. Miller's Quay has been made possible through a special partnership between Peel L&P, Homes England, Wirral Council, and our funding partner, Pension Insurance Corporation plc, and we would like to thank everyone involved.
Since we started onsite last year, working with our contractor, GRAHAM, we have seen fantastic progress on site, as well as full engagement with both Wirral Met College and local supply chains. We are hopefully going to see the first of the topping out ceremonies very soon!
