17 year old swim sensation Freya Anderson is encouraging teenage girls to find a sport they enjoy with Wirral’s This Girl Can campaign.
The talented teen from Upton is fast becoming one of the country’s most talented swimmers with a number of prestigious titles already under her belt including World Junior Champion and recently earned her first senior gold medal for Great Britain’s swim team in the European Championships.
The swimming star was a member of Wirral’s Metro Swim Club at Europa Pools, Birkenhead and thanks the support of local clubs and coaches for getting her to where she is today.
Freya said: ‘I learnt to swim from a young age and loved it. I joined swim clubs in Wirral, where coaches and volunteers helped develop my swimming which gave me confidence.
‘Being part of a club was a great way for me to meet new friends. I’d say to other girls to find something for them because they won’t look back’.
Last year Freya was approached by Sky Sports to be part of their prestigious Sky Scholarship, which helps promising young athletes by supporting their development.
Freya now swims for Ellesmere College Titans and is juggling her A-levels with an intensive competition schedule. She still uses Wirral leisure centre pools to train and is setting her sights on competing at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
She said: ‘If you enjoy a sport but doubt how good you might be at it, don’t! You just need to stick with it because finding something you enjoy is the most important thing.
‘You should always dream big and never give up because anything is possible.’
