In Wirral there are nearly 800 children and young people all in need of carers to provide a safe, stable, and loving home. If you have been thinking of fostering, why not begin your journey this Foster Care Fortnight.
Taking place from 9- 22 May, Foster Care Fortnight™ is The Fostering Network's annual campaign to raise the profile of fostering nationally and show how foster care transforms lives.
Below are four steps to help start your fostering journey and take that next step to changing a child’s life, and maybe even your own:
1. Facts at your fingertips
Many people consider fostering but aren’t sure if they would be accepted. There is no such thing as a typical foster carer. Our carers come from all sorts of different backgrounds - with one thing in common; they care about the children they help. Read our myths around fostering on wirralfostering. org and stop ruling yourself out.
2. Hear what our foster carers have to say
Don’t take our word for it, take a look at our foster carers stories and find out why some of our carers decided to get into fostering and hear from them what it's really like. Visit our dedicated fostering stories webpage.
3. Find out more about our support networks
Don’t worry, you are not alone during your fostering journey.
When you foster with the local authority you join a team and will always have the support of our fostering team and our network of foster carers. We are there to support you 24/7.
Fostering for Wirral means looking after local children and working with a local service with direct access to a range of local professionals.
Foster carers receive a range of ongoing support and training, as well as financial support. Find out more on our fostering support page.
4. Get in touch
We need to recruit more foster carers for children than ever before and if you've read this far you could be the person they need.
The best way to find out more, whether it’s the very first time you’ve thought about it or the hundredth, is to speak to our friendly fostering team. They are there to answer any questions you may have.
So, if you or someone you know has room in their home and heart to foster, you can enquire for more information online: www.wirralfostering.org or give the team a call on 0151 666 4616.
Join the conversation
If you are already a foster carer use #FCF22 and #FosteringCommunities on social media to join in with the campaign, share your stories and experiences of how the fostering community has supported you, or what fostering means to you and your community.
