If you test positive from a symptom-free test in Wirral, you will now be asked to book a further test at one of our symptoms-only testing centres in order that we can get additional information about the virus strains circulating across Liverpool City Region, which will help us stop the spread of the virus further.
Director of Public Health Julie Webster said: “Symptom-free testing is available by appointment only for key workers and anyone who simply cannot stay at home during lockdown in Wirral. This will remain the case, but I want to better understand the pattern and nature of the positive cases in our community and so have asked that we reinstate the need for a confirmatory PCR test for anyone testing positive at one of our symptom-free centres. By getting a confirmatory PCR test we can then send a percentage of those tests to the lab to be analysed further and pinpoint what is happening and how the virus is changing. This understanding is crucial to the way we tackle this virus and keep people safe.”
