Window to subscribe for garden waste collections now open

The window to subscribe to Wirral’s fortnightly garden waste collection service will open from 21 July for collections between 25 August 2020 and 31 May 2021.

As there is a shorter subscription period than in previous years after delays caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, the price has fallen by more than £10 to £32.20 - down from £43. That is less than £1.80 per collection.

The cost to have an additional garden waste (brown) bin at one property emptied has also been reduced by £5 to just £20 per additional bin for the year.

If you are already a subscriber and want to carry on receiving collections without interruption, please re-subscribe by 10 August 2020.

In addition to credit card and debit card payment options, a new Direct Debit payment option is now available, so you can avoid having to sign up every year.

To pay by Direct Debit, you will need to sign in to your free MyWirral account. If you do not have a MyWirral account, you can create one through the Wirral Council website.

The council is unable to accept cheques as payment this year because of disruption caused by coronavirus. If you need help signing up, please call Street Scene on 0151 606 2004 (although expect that these lines will be busy).

Until 25 August, bins will only be collected from homes who subscribed last year, as crews work to catch up on collections missed due to the suspension of the service earlier in the year.

Cllr Julie McManus, Wirral’s Cabinet Member for Community Services said: “Although this is a shorter subscription year than we’re used to, I hope the reduced price will encourage more residents to sign up for this great value service.

“Lockdown and warm weather have given people time to enjoy their gardens again and paying to have your brown bin emptied means you can dispose of your garden waste conveniently, without having to queue at the tip.

“I’m also really pleased to announce the introduction of our Direct Debit payment option, which will mean subscribers can choose to sign up once and not have to worry about another renewal process or missing the deadline."
