"As you know we are all being asked to adhere to new restrictions as a result of rising COVID-19 infections across Wirral. I share your disappointment that so soon after we were starting to enjoy a gradual relaxation of the lockdown imposed earlier in the year, we are now seeing that go into reverse.
"I understand you may find this difficult but I urge you to now, at this crucial point, stick to the new regulations and guidance.
"The more we all heed these restrictions, the more likely we are to reduce and halt the spread of Coronavirus. We are seeing infections increasing across a range of different age groups and in varying settings in the borough and it is incumbent on us all to do what we can to stop this.
"Over the course of this year it has been remarkable to see how neighbourhoods and communities have come together to support those who needed extra help and comfort, working together to protect the most vulnerable and maintaining the lockdown. I can’t thank you enough for the sacrifices and compromises so many of you have made this year - but I do have to ask you all to continue.
"Although we have new restrictions in place from this week, it is vital that we all ensure we do not throw away the progress that has been made, and the opportunity to reduce future infections, by sticking to the new rules. Also, please go back to the basics: wash your hands frequently, keep your distance, wear your face covering and if you think you have symptoms, self-isolate and get tested - details on how to get a test and are available here wirral.gov.uk/test.
"I understand guidance has changed at times and it may be difficult to know what you need to do so this wrap around your Wirral Globe contains additional information to help keep you safe and to stop the spread of COVID-19, and you can get more information at wirral.gov.uk/covidguide.
"Thank you again for all your help,
"Councillor Pat Hackett Leader of Wirral Council."
