Wirral businesses will soon be able to assess, and boost, their ‘COVID-safe’ measures with a ‘spot check’ service.
As part of a partnership between Wirral Council and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), local companies of all sizes will be contacted by phone or visit to discuss the latest advice and guidance, to ensure the safety of their staff and their customers.
With Omicron proving to be more transmissible than previous COVID-19 variants, businesses are still playing a vital role in helping to stop the spread among their staff and customers. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the council’s Environmental Health and Licensing teams have been working with businesses to offer support and assistance in meeting COVID safety rules guidelines including providing a dedicated business toolkit. This latest partnership will see the HSE bolstering that effort by checking, for example, that businesses have appropriate risk assessments and cleaning regimes in place, that appropriate signs and information are available, and that hand washing or sanitiser is in place. Any businesses that need extra support to be ‘COVID-safe’ will be contacted further by the council’s teams.
Wirral’s Director of Public Health Julie Webster said: “Businesses play a key role in fighting this virus and we saw earlier in the pandemic how hard they worked to ensure they are COVID-secure. It’s important this effort continues and our local companies do all they can to keep protecting their staff and customers.”
