New COVID-19 grant for hospitality and leisure businesses

Hospitality and leisure businesses affected by Omicron are invited to apply for a new Government grant being administered by the council.

From Tuesday 11 January, Wirral Council is inviting applications for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant, aimed at businesses most affected by the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

The one-off grant will be available to hospitality and leisure rate-paying businesses.

Funded by the Government and administered by the council to help and support local businesses, the grant will be based on the rateable value of premises, as follows:

  • £15,000 or under: £2,667
  • £15,001 to £50,999: £4,000
  • £51,000 or over: £6,000

The deadline for applications is Monday 28 February 2022, however the Council may need to close the scheme earlier, subject to updated government requirements. Therefore eligible businesses are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Wirral Council will also receive a top-up allocation of Additional Restrictions Grant from government to support other businesses that are severely impacted by the Omicron variant. This will focus on supporting businesses that are not eligible for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant. The Council is working with Liverpool City Region authorities on this new grant and details on how to apply will be announced before the end of January.
