Capacity for testing people for COVID-19 in Wirral is increasing from this week.
Everyone over the age of two years who is showing symptoms of coronavirus is now able to apply for a test locally.
The Wirral Satellite Testing Centre is based at Bidston park and ride station, and offers a 7 day service for people who can either drive through or walk in to the site – however tests are strictly by appointment only. People arriving at the test site without a booking will be turned away - without exception.
The main symptoms of coronavirus are a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and/or loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. These symptoms are regularly reviewed and updated at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus
You can apply for a test via www.wirral.gov.uk/test and once you have applied for a test, a member of Wirral Testing Team will contact you to arrange an appointment.
If you cannot access the website you can contact Wirral Covid Helpline 0151 666 5050 to apply for a test.
Full instructions on how to take the test and how and when you will receive your results will be provided once an appointment has been confirmed.
NHS Health & Social Care essential workers, and /or their symptomatic household members will continue to be prioritised. The centre can now carry out 150 tests per day however if demand is exceeded you will be redirected to other Satellite or Regional Testing Sites.
Cllr Chris Jones, cabinet member for Adult Care, Health and Wellbeing, said: “The more testing we can carry out the more we can understand the spread of COVID-19 and the more we can do to slow that spread down, as well as making sure people get the right advice for themselves, their family, and anyone they may have been in contact with.
"I know how difficult this is but increased testing will help us track the spread of the Coronavirus and move towards returning some normality to our lives.”
