Council Leader urges residents and visitors to stay home this bank holiday

Dear residents and visitors,

I know Government guidance has now changed and the Coronavirus lockdown has begun to ease. I also know Wirral has some amazing beauty spots that attract people from near and far. It's understandable that in good weather, these places become even more appealing.

But I would like to ask you to stop and think a moment before you decide to take advantage of our countryside and coastline this bank holiday weekend. The busier somewhere is, the harder it is for everyone to stick to social distancing.

If you do decide to go out, please be vigilant in busier areas, and remember to keep at least two metres (six feet) apart from those who don't live with you.

Coronavirus is still widespread. While being outside reduces the risk of catching it, it doesn't remove it altogether.

Local businesses that are allowed to open will be set up to help customers stick to social distancing as much as possible, but council facilities in tourist areas will still be limited due to Coronavirus. All three islands at Hilbre remain closed, for now.

We want to keep our local communities, businesses, and any visitors as safe as possible. So please - make sure you put your health and the health of others first, before deciding what to do this weekend.

Thanks for reading, and stay safe.

Councillor Pat Hackett.
