A message from Julie Webster, Wirral’s Director of Public Health.
Since I last wrote to you a lot has changed. As you will know, we are now in a national lockdown, due to last until December 2nd.
The national restrictions require us all to:
- Stay at home, except for specific purposes.
- Avoid meeting people you do not live with, except for specific purposes.
- Close certain businesses and venues.
These tight national restrictions aim to limit Coronavirus infections and stop our NHS, care and critical services becoming overwhelmed.
This all may feel a bit like ‘Groundhog Day’, but there are some key differences between this lockdown and the first back in March/April. Here's just five...
This time around, many people are going into lockdown as part of a support "bubble". This means that an adult living alone or a single parent family can mix with one other household of any size.
In the first lockdown, we were told we could only take one form of exercise outdoors per day. This time, you can spend time or exercise outdoors for as long and as often as you like. This should be done locally wherever possible.
You can meet one friend outside... with your children:
You can catch up with a friend in an outdoor public place, like a park or beach, as long as you socially distance and neither of you is self-isolating. Children of pre-school age are not included in the two-person limit, so those looking after little ones can still have social contact.
Click and collect services available:
Non-essential shops are closing once again, but this time click and collect - where customers order products online or on the phone then go to pick them up - will be allowed. Garden centres can also stay open this time, as can the tips.
Schools, schools, schools:
Schools, colleges and universities will all remain open, as will nurseries and other childcare settings.
I know this is a point that many people are questioning, but we know how important school is for our children and young people’s education and mental wellbeing. A good education is the key to a great start in life so it is vital that our children and young people continue their studies during this time.
