Community voices across the Cheshire and Merseyside region have come together to ask the public to Take A Minute.
The Take A Minute campaign is about highlighting the voices of those in our communities who are following protective measures. For their families, their friends, loved ones, our health services.
Footballers, actors, comedians, council workers, youth workers, parents, grandparents, teachers, nurses and firefighters are just some of the people who are sharing their thoughts as part of the ‘Take A Minute’ campaign, which has been devised by council and health partners across Merseyside and Cheshire.
Cllr Janette Williamson, Leader of Wirral Council, said: “Everyone in our community has had to make sacrifices, in one form or another, this year. But we each have those key motivators that push us to keep going and keep doing right by our communities and health services.
“For some of us it’s about protecting loved ones, for others it might be about the impact of COVID-19 on our care homes. Maybe you’re aching to get back to the football, live music, a casual cuppa with a friend you’ve missed.
“Whatever it is, the quickest way to get back to that is to get through the next few months as safely as possible.”
Viv Harrison, a community nurse from Wirral, took part in the campaign because she wanted to appeal to her community to play a vital role in reducing the spread of the virus.
In her video as part of the campaign, Viv, who recently came out of retirement to support Wirral’s COVID-19 response, speaks from the heart about family, friends and missing special moments with her loved ones.
Viv Harrison said: “When I take a minute… I think of all my family who I haven’t been able to go and see visit or stay with particularly my 84 year old mother who lives 200 miles away.
“I’ve missed going to the gym and my classes and generally socialising with family and friends.
“However the pandemic did give me the chance to return to nursing by coming out of retirement and I’ve had a number of roles one of which was working in a care home with vulnerable elderly people.
“I think of them a lot, and I think of what they were missing.
“I’m also thinking of my daughter who is pregnant and due to deliver early December and I feel sad that I won’t be able to be there during the delivery.
“This is why I do the right things so we can get back to normal safely and as soon as possible.”
Viv is one of many community spokespeople who has taken part in the Take A Minute campaign, which centres real people and real experiences. It is not about giving advice or guidance. It simply asks everyone to stop and pause for thought – and take a minute to reflect on what the last few months have meant for them.
- Sue, a youth worker from Sefton, talks about missing cuddles with her grandkids and wanting to keep supporting the young people she works with.
- Mo, a Liverpool resident, wants to get back to having a natter over a cuppa with friends and family.
- Kenny, a big LFC fan, can’t wait to get back to watching the football, and all the socialising with friends and family that that usually brings.
- Milo, a young person from Sefton, is missing those friendly face you'd usually see out and about.
- Anthony, a local actor, can’t wait to get back to the theatre.
Through powerful video messaging, these individuals and others appeal directly to their communities to do the right things collectively, to get through this difficult time together – motivated by all those things that they have missed and are longing to get back to.
