Cold weather and snow updates
As Wirral has seen heavy snow overnight, here’s the latest information on any services that have been affected.
Updates - Friday 5.25pm
With overnight snow clearing in the afternoon, we expect any postponed or cancelled services - including school transport - to restart on Monday.
Biffa will aim to collect all missed bins over the weekend and into Monday so please leave your bin out until it is collected. Monday’s collections will go ahead as normal.
Our gritters have been out every evening this week and with temperatures set to drop overnight, crews will once again be spreading salt along the usual routes.
Updates - Friday am
Household bin collections
Due to the weather conditions, household bin collections due today will not take place. We are also aware that there are some roads waiting for a garden waste collection from yesterday.
Biffa will aim to collect all missed bins over the weekend and into Monday, please leave your bin out until collected.
Monday’s scheduled collections will go ahead as normal.
We're sorry for the disruption but, the safety of our residents and crews operating the bin wagons is a priority. Bin wagons can weigh up to 25 tonnes when full, so if one slides it could be really dangerous for everyone involved.
You do not need to call us or report online your missed bin collections from today.
Street Cleansing
Street cleansing has been suspended today and litter bins will be emptied on Sunday.
ERIC bulky waste collections
If you have an ERIC collection due today, this will now be collected on Monday 13 March.
Gritting
Our gritting crews were out treating all the main routes last night and in the early hours of this morning. As always, officers are monitoring weather conditions and forecasts for the road surface temperatures 24 hours a day and crews are on standby to take to the streets again whenever necessary.
Find out more about Wirral’s gritting operation on the council's website www.wirral.gov.uk/gritting
Priority pathways, such as those around medical centres and shopping centres, have now been cleared or gritted.
Council-provided transport for people to get to schools, colleges or day centres
This has been cancelled due to poor road conditions today. As the weather is set to improve throughout the day, the team will endeavour to bring home any residential pupils from out of borough providing it is safe to do so. They will liaise with parents, drivers and schools directly.
Transport is expected to be back to normal next week as the weather forecast looks much better.

A large number of Wirral schools have taken the decision to close today.
Parents are advised to use schools’ usual communications channels for information.
