A553: Fender Lane Bridge set for closures for inspection work and structural investigations
07 September 2022
Drivers in Merseyside are being advised that the Fender Lane Bridge along the A553 is set for a series of closures this month to allow for investigations and inspections.
National Highways needs to close the bridge from Monday 12 September to Thursday 15 September and again on Monday 19 September to Friday 23 September 2022 to carry out intrusive investigations work.
National Highways and design consultant Amey will carry out structural investigations as well as stress testing, tendon breakouts and concrete material testing. Interior testing will also take place and daytime closures will need to be in place to allow this work to be carried out.
The eastbound carriageway of the A553, which is located close to junction 2 of the M53, will need to be closed for 24 hours a day for three days from Monday 12 September. It will be reopened on Thursday 15 September.
The westbound carriageway of the A553 will be closed for 24 hours a day for four days from Monday 19 September and will be reopened on Friday 23 September.
Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place and access to properties will be maintained at all times. We're advising motorists to plan ahead and allow additional time to complete journeys.
Further details and diversion routes can be found at the NW maintenance section of the National Highways website: nationalhighways.co.uk/our-roads/north-west/north-west-maintenance-schemes/
