Wirral has joined the Mersey River Festival party, with a whole host of events at New Brighton and Woodside to over the whole weekend.
Here are our top five Wirral highlights during the festival on June 24th and 25th!
1. Wirral's view of the Mersey:
The Mersey hosts some of the most exciting events of the weekend, including the Thunder Cats display team, Red Arrows salute and the Yakovlevs Aerobatics display team. Wirral’s waterfront is the perfect place to watch all these activities unfold, whether you’re in New Brighton or Woodside!
2. Pirates down New Brighton:
New Brighton’s colourful history saw pirates and smugglers make the most of our coast, and they’re all back to celebrate the Mersey Festival, including ‘the cutthroat pirate’ – Wirral’s tallest outlaw – and two balloonatics, who have some balloon swords to give away to budding pirates!
3. Woodside Festival:
Woodside's waterfront is getting into the festival spirit with a huge range of events, including live music, children’s activities, the amazing Lion Fish & Trawlermen stilt walkers, and face painters: it’s bound to be a fantastic mix of fun festivities!
4. Amorini Antiques:
Woodside’s Amorini Antiques are holding an event to celebrate the festival across both days, including face painting, ice cream, afternoon tea, a snack bar and a table top antique sale: there’s loads to entertain kids and big kids, and it’s just a stone’s throw away from Woodside ferry terminal!
5. Prosecco Van:
Our last entry is just for the adults (and an office favourite!) Unwind at Woodside with a glass of bubbly from a special Mersey River Festival Prosecco van: we don’t know whether there are many better ways to enjoy a day at Wirral’s seaside!
