Success for Wirral schools

Seven Wirral schools have been ranked in the Top 10 best secondary schools in Merseyside and Halton by the Real Schools Guide.

West Kirby Grammar School is crowned number one in the prestigious league table, with Wirral Grammar School for Girls in second place and Calday Grange Grammar School in third place.

Upton Hall School is in seventh place, while Birkenhead High School Academy features at number eight, St John Plessington Catholic College at number nine, and Wirral Grammar School for Boys at number 10.

Ranking schools on more than 50 different measures – from results to progress and teacher-pupil ratios – the Guide aims to give a more comprehensive overview than other league tables, and has been praised by ministers and school experts.

Councillor Bernie Mooney, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said:

“We are incredibly proud to feature so highly in the Real Schools Guide league table for 2017, and we believe this reflects the tremendous amount of hard work taking place across Wirral schools each year.

"All of our children deserve to be educated in good quality schools, and we are working to ensure that all schools in the borough are rated by Ofsted as ‘good’ or better by 2020.”
