Port Sunlight River Park birthday picnic

Port Sunlight River Park is celebrating its 3rd year of opening with a special birthday picnic.

The event will take place on Sunday 13th August from 12 noon until 4pm and will be the Park’s biggest celebration yet with over 20 attractions, stalls and activities.

The birthday picnic has been organised by the Friends of Port Sunlight River Park in partnership with Autism Together and the Ranger, Anne Litherland.

Robin Bush, Chief Executive Officer of Autism Together will be cutting the celebratory 3rd Birthday Cake at 12.30pm.

Wildlife attractions will include the beautiful birds of prey courtesy of the Rockcliffe Raptors, Cheshire Wildlife and the RSPB.

Cheshire Wildlife Recording will be set up overlooking the stunning lake where you can bird-watch live and see why the River Park is now a magnificent hub for bird life. Wirral Bee Keepers will be there with a real hive and candle making, and The Bat Group stand will give you a fascinating insight into the bat species that are flourishing in the area, with more information on our regular “Bat Watches” with sonar detectors.

Family activities will include the supervised Play Zone, Face Painting and Nature Hunt Treasure Trail – a great way to learn and discover all areas of the park, and for the first time, Chester Zoo Wildlife Connections will be attending.

The event will also feature a local Fire Engine.

The birthday celebration will be autism friendly and Autism Together will have a stand for information and advice, while Multi-Sensory World have a stall committed to providing products and activity to encourage development through the stimulation of senses.

The River Park will also host its first Tai Chi taster session on the summit offering panoramic views of the area.

Wirral Autism Together band “The Beathovens” will be providing the musical entertainment including of course the park's “Happy Birthday” sing-along.

The Friends of the River Park stall will be on hand to help with information about events, activities and volunteering and are delighted to have the help and support of The Soroptimists who will be running the raffle.

This year the Friends Tea & Cake Stall will be complemented by their new Street Food Van and Vintage Ice Cream Van, perfect for those who don’t bring your own picnic!

Speaking of the anniversary event, Alison Kelly from the Friends of Port Sunlight River Park said “I am delighted that we have been able to grow the event providing more attractions but keeping the wildlife theme. The volunteers work hard before during and after the event to make it fun, relaxed, safe and family friendly. We are also grateful to the Bebington Sea Cadets for providing their First Aid support".

As parking is limited visitors are encouraged to come by public transport or walk. There will be a limited number of pre-bookable parking spaces at the main event site for blue badge holders.
